![]() I personally advocate that private chats are for private conversations and mentorship. So tl dr: you probably cover this already, but mainly just the structured differentiation between when and why to collaborate in Private Chat vs. Not only is it less overwhelming when everyone can access the same sources of knowledge, search for answers or offer solutions they remembered I've shared before to someone else, someone can chime in and remind "hey this is very useful, let's commit that into some documentation!" and my boss can see with his own eyes just how active I am in any given day either getting done what I need to get done (because I'm posting updates to the channel for that project) or I am the critical component to seemingly everyone else's project, or even just that they're asking me to troubleshoot a CI pipeline error that they hadn't even read or Googled (I started asking "what has Google turned up for this error so far?" and that's helped a lot, people aren't dumb they're just stressed and need to get the papercuts out of their way) I advocate for creating as many Teams and Channels and especially Tags as I can justify to funnel all this support and collaboration through. On one end, they're excluding anyone from collaborating who might otherwise have something to contribute, but that's fine I'm OK being excluded if I can just focus on what I need to work on.Īnd on that end, I typically become a subject matter expert in some area of specialization and interest that people seem to value at any given time, and they end up messaging me individually to help them (and I am eager and willing to help! it's my favorite thing sometimes, and what I actually have to work on is sometimes even worth procrastinating □)īut it's so much, and nobody else has visibility to just how much support I'm handing out when their tasks are getting done and I'm answering in standups "yeah I spent all day yesterday supporting my team and so I had not been able to fixate on this task for the necessary 6 consecutive uninterrupted hours I anticipated when we planned and estimated at this amount of points worth of effort." One of the bigger things I have struggled with was how many people want to do their all work in private chats. When it's still information overload I pin the channels I actually use so that I can collapse the Your teams section from view and just see the 5 or so channels I actually want to give attention to.Teams and Channels - these get pretty overwhelming so using the hide channel feature can simplify the Team view, but to take that further you can also hide entire Teams that aren't used often.New Outlook/Outlook for the web - I use a combination of the Archive and the Snooze function to keep my inbox clear, everything left in my Inbox is my To Do list.On the other end of the spectrum, using workflows to get notifications of things I need to remember later, like the Follow up on a message flow. Also the Unread only switch helps reduce the clutter. Notification management - by reducing the notifications I get on Teams to just those that actually matter the Activity feed is much easier to deal with.I like this idea a lot, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
